Appealing MS61 1895-O Dollar

1895-O $1 MS61 PCGS. CAC. In 1895, the New Orleans Mint struck silver dollars in only four months of the year, January, February, April, and May, for a total mintage of just 450,000 coins. The present piece is an appealing Mint State survivor of this popular issue, one that is relatively available in most circulated states but surprisingly elusive in unworn grades. The luminous surfaces are primarily silver-gray, though hints of rose and sage dot parts of the portrait and the nearby fields. Well-defined at the margins, though the hair over Liberty's ear and the eagle's breast show the softness that is characteristic for the date.(Registry values: P9, N4719)
