Description

Condition Rarity 1895-O Dollar, MS61

1895-O $1 MS61 PCGS. As evidenced by the PCGS/NGC population figures, 1895-O dollars are often seen in lower grades. Even About Uncirculated coins are seen with some frequency. However, in the words of David Bowers (2006): "In Mint State the 1895-O dollar is very rare." Bowers also indicates: "Striking is usually below average to average, not often sharp. Cherrypicking is encouraged, not easy to do with 1895-O as Mint State pieces are quite elusive."
Pleasing satiny luster exudes from both sides of the MS61 coin offered in this lot. Occasional whispers of faint olive-green patina show up under magnification, but the surfaces essentially display a silver-gray cast. The strike is a tad better than usually seen on representatives of this issue, but the centers are soft. Some minute contact marks and luster grazes help to account for the grade(Registry values: P9, N4719)
