Description

1895-O Morgan Dollar, MS61
Unusually Lustrous and Sharp

1895-O $1 MS61 PCGS. The 1895-O Morgan dollar is a low-mintage issue (450,000 pieces struck), that was not especially well-made. Most examples have weak strikes and lackluster surfaces. The mintage was released into circulation before numismatic interest in branch mint issues was well-developed. No bags of 1895-O dollars were among those released by the Treasury Department in the 1960s.

This coin is an attractive exception to the rule for this O-mint issue, with well-defined motifs that show just a touch of softness on the hair above Liberty's ear. Likewise, the surfaces show only minor contact marks seen at Liberty's chin, jawline, and neck truncation. The fields are smooth and abrasion-free, while the luster is more vibrant than usual. Hints of pale-gold toning add to the considerable eye appeal. PCGS Population: 59 in 61, 108 finer (12/25).(Registry values: P9, N4719)
