Description

PCGS 1895-O MS 61 Deep Mirror Prooflike. Any BU 1895-O dollar creates excitement when it is offered. When a collector is fortunate enough to have the opportunity to buy one through auction, the sweat begins to flow and the throat begins to close as the lot draws near. Add DMPL surfaces to the coin and watch the sparks fly! This glorious example is among the finest known "dimples" in the marketplace. A few months back an MS 62 example traded hands between dealers. Although that coin had a 62 on the holder, it is hard for us to imagine that it was more appealing than this lot. In the recently, released third edition of the VAM book it is noted that "prooflikes are known but are extremely rare." It is also noted that the issue is generally found a little weak with regards to the strike. The presently offered example is not typical in that respect. The strike is needle sharp and will satisfy even the fussiest dollar collector. This may well find a new home in the arid Southwest. The lightly scattered marks on this coin are accentuated by the deep, deep mirrors. A light cut under the final U of PLURIBUS is noted for the sake of future identification. A special opportunity that the dollar specialist will not want to miss. Watch for a heated floor fight for possession rights on this rarity.
