Description
Near-Unimprovable Gem 1895-S Morgan Dollar
1895-S $1 MS65 PCGS. While the 1895-S Morgan dollar is an elusive issue, particularly in Gem and finer grades, it is much more conditionally available (and less expensive) than its famous siblings from Philadelphia and New Orleans, and for that reason is usually the choice of date set collectors. PCGS has certified 29 examples in Gem condition, with only two pieces finer (3/10). And if one is seeking a PCGS example in Prooflike or Deep Mirror Prooflike, the MS64 grade is essentially the finest obtainable, with but a single exception. While this piece is not fully Prooflike, it does boasts semiprooflike fields, as often seen on this low-mintage issue. The strike is full throughout, a definite plus for most collectors. Superlative mint luster abounds on both sides. The only noticeable abrasion is a thin, shallow, horizontal one along Liberty's jawline. A nearly unimprovable example.(Registry values: P8, N4719)
