VAM-4, S Over Horizontal S
1895-S $1 S Over Horizontal S, VAM-4, MS63 Prooflike PCGS
Secure. A Top 100 Variety. Ex: Diamond Head-Key West
Collection. This variety was discovered by numismatist Tom DeLorey,
former editor of Coin World''s "Collector's Clearinghouse"
column, in November 1979. The remains of a dramatic horizontal S
mintmark appear at top left and within the final upright mintmark.
This is a lovely example of the 1895-S issue even without the VAM,
reflective silver-white with a light golden tinge and minimal
surface marks that are suggestive of an even finer grade.
Population: 4 in 63 Prooflike, 3 finer (3/14).Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2014), lot 4973.
