Description

Exceptional 1896 Morgan Dollar, MS67

1896 $1 MS67 PCGS. The 1896 Morgan dollar has earned little respect over the years, being one of the most abundantly available issues in the entire series. Bowers (1993) opines that there are probably at least half a million Mint State examples extant, and possibly well over a million. Third-party population data confirms that the 1896 is not scarce in Uncirculated grades up to and including MS65. The certified number drops in MS66, but there are still over 1,000 coins encapsulated at that level by the two major services. At MS67, however, there are just 70 pieces certified, with none finer (3/09). This is a bright, intensely brilliant, fully struck specimen with well preserved surfaces. A superficial abrasion is noted just above Liberty's eye, but the overall quality of the coin is exceptional. (Registry values: P2, N2998)
