Description

Conditionally Scarce 1896-O Dollar, MS63

1896-O $1 MS63 NGC. Dave Bowers (2005) writes that most of the mintage of the 1896-O must have been released into circulation because this date is difficult to find in Mint State. Choice examples are quite rare and whenever a Gem specimen comes to the market it fetches a six-figure price. This brilliant representative is sharply struck, but has a number of grade-defining abrasions on both sides. A tiny blemish is noted by Liberty's chin. An attractive piece that would be worth many multiples more just one numerical grade finer. NGC has certified only 15 finer examples (8/08).(Registry values: P9, N2998)
