    1896-O Dollar, MS64
    Well-Known Condition Rarity

1896-O $1 MS64 PCGS. Ex: Bella. Mint State 1896-O dollars are readily available through the MS62 level of preservation. Above the MS62 level, the supply drops precipitously. Select coins are scarce, near-Gems are rare, and anything finer is extremely rare.

Nearly all examples are poorly struck. The present MS64 coin reveals the typical weakness in the centers, but the intensely lustrous surfaces help make up for this. Wisps of light tan-gray color make occasional visits to both sides, each of which possesses just a few minor marks. The most obvious mark is a shallow, diagonal abrasion on the neck of Liberty which provides a ready pedigree identifier. Population: 26 in 64, 3 finer (8/13).(Registry values: P9, N7079) (NGC ID# 27ZU, PCGS# 7242)

    Weight: 26.73 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
