Description

1896-S Morgan Dollar, MS61
Delicate Peripheral Toning

1896-S $1 MS61 PCGS. VAM-2. On VAM-2 the 1 is doubled below the upper crossbar, and the 6 shows doubled at the top as a curved line. Although not a series rarity, the 1896-S is elusive in Mint State and conditionally rare in MS66. While the central devices and fields are brilliant, this MS61 is bordered with caramel and amber on the periphery, and the overall eye appeal is quite pleasing. A slightly soft strike shows on the hair over the ear, otherwise the devices are frosty and sharp. Marks are consistent with the grade.(Registry values: P7, N1793)
