Description

Challenging 1896-S Morgan Dollar, MS63

1896-S $1 MS63 PCGS. From a generous mintage of 5 million pieces, the 1896-S Morgan dollar is a surprisingly difficult issue today. Most examples seen are in circulated grades, and finding an attractive Mint State specimen is a challenge. The coin offered here is sharply struck, especially on the obverse, an important point as the 1896-S is usually seen with a soft strike. The surfaces exhibit full cartwheel luster, also unusual for the issue. A typical assortment of small handling marks on the obverse limits the grade.(Registry values: P7, N1793)
