Remarkable 1896-S Dollar, Choice Uncirculated
1896-S $1 MS64 NGC. Like many of the late S-mint Morgan dollars, the 1896-S is elusive in high Mint State grades. Examples of this issue can be easily found in most circulated grades, but even AU specimens have a substantial premium. A few patches of light tan toning accent the mostly silver-gray surfaces of this highly lustrous piece. The reverse is remarkably pristine for the grade and the obverse has only trivial abrasions.
