Description
Scarce 1896-S Morgan Dollar, MS64
1896-S $1 MS64 NGC. According to Wayne Miller, the 1896-S Morgan dollar is very scarce in Uncirculated condition, despite a high mintage of 5 million pieces. This near-Gem example is well struck and lustrous, with smoky plum-gray toning in the fields and light golden accents at the peripheries. A couple of small milling marks on Liberty's portrait limit the grade. NGC has only certified 24 finer examples (4/09).(Registry values: P7, N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2564, PCGS# 7244, GSID# 7627)
