Description
Softly Frosted 1896-S Dollar, MS64
1896-S $1 MS64 NGC. Because of the sheer numbers of Morgan dollar issues it is possible for certain date and mintmark combinations to slip between the cracks and end up overlooked. This has been our impression of the 1896-S. It is not nearly as available as one would think for a coin with a mintage of 5 million pieces. Gems and near-Gems are seldom encountered, indicating most are held in collections. This is a mostly brilliant coin that displays a slight accent of golden at the rim on each side. The surfaces are subdued, but still frosted, and the striking details are well brought up. A minimally abraded example.(Registry values: P7, N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2564, PCGS# 7244, GSID# 7627)
