Frosty Near-Gem 1897-O Morgan

1897-O $1 MS64 PCGS. The Bowers Guide Book on Morgan dollars succinctly calls the 1897-O issue a "cherrypicker's dream," usually due to deficiencies of strike and luster. This near-Gem example offers softly frosted luster over silver-white surfaces, and the luster is of the moderate cartwheel sort. Liberty's cheek is clean for the grade, and the strike over the ear and on the eagle's breast are a tad better than usually seen for the issue. All of these criteria add up to a coin that possesses much of the appeal of a Gem example, at a price that will be far more affordable. Population: 33 in 64, 13 finer (2/10).
