Description
Attractive and Important 1897-O Morgan, MS63 Prooflike PCGS
1897-O $1 MS63 Prooflike PCGS. Like the 1896-O (an issue that is also well represented in this sale), the 1897-O is known for poor striking definition, dull luster, and, as a result, limited eye appeal. On the other hand, most of the Prooflike and Deep Mirror Prooflike coins extant display an exactness of strike that is a radical departure from the norm for the issue. The problem from the collector's point of view is that there are not enough of such coins to go around. For example, NGC and PCGS combined have seen just 21 Prooflike coins in grades that range from MS60 through MS64 (9/01). The present representative is uncommonly attractive for the date as well as the assigned grade. The mirrored fields do not reflect an excessive number of abrasions, and those that are present are small. The devices are sharp throughout, and the untoned features possess significant eye appeal. Worthy of a strong bid. From the Bill Dailey Collection.
