1897-S Dollar, MS67+
CAC-Approved Registry Coin
Only Three Examples Finer at PCGS

1897-S $1 MS67+ PCGS. CAC. Writing in his 1993 Silver Dollar Encyclopedia, Dave Bowers explains that the 1897-S Morgan dollar "is readily available in all Mint State grades, although most are at lower levels." More than 5.8 million examples were struck, and the average certified assessment falls between MS62 and MS63. This is the highest grade level for which the 1897-S remains obtainable, though the coin offered here is clearly pushing the boundary of quality for the grade as it approaches an even higher numeric level. Both sides are all-brilliant with cartwheel mint frost. A touch of central softness in no way detracts from the exceptional preservation and eye appeal. Worthy of inclusion in a fine Registry Set. Population: 36 in 67 (5 in 67+), 3 finer. CAC: 9 in 67, 0 finer (2/22).(Registry values: P4, N2998)
