Impressive 1898-S Dollar, MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike
1898-S $1 MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. Collectors of Deep Mirror Prooflike Morgan dollars need no introduction to this issue, among the rarest in the entire series. Indeed, NGC and PCGS combined have only certified eight of these in MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike, with none finer. In his 1993 Silver Dollar Encyclopedia, Dave Bowers wrote conservatively: "Semi-prooflike coins are plentiful, prooflikes are scarcer, and true DMPLs are about twice as elusive as PLs."This piece is an outstanding cameo Deep Mirror Prooflike Gem, with minimally abraded devices and fields, contrary to the words of Wayne Miller in The Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook, who wrote: "The few cameo prooflikes that the author has seen of this date have usually been quite flat on the high points, and/or heavily abraded." A touch of violet and gold toning accents the otherwise brilliant surfaces and bold design definition.(Registry values: P5, N4719)
