Description

Rare Superb Gem 1898-S Morgan Dollar

1898-S $1 MS67 PCGS. This is a simply gorgeous specimen, with fully struck design elements and splendid, coruscating luster across both sides. Lovely champagne-rose toning adorns the peripheries, leaving the silver-gray centers essentially untoned. Expertly preserved, seemingly since immediately after leaving the dies, this piece shows none of the usual bagmarks or tiny chatter marks that are common to Uncirculated Morgan dollars. The 1898-S is a common date, readily available at lower grades of Mint State, but Superb Gems are rare. Population: 2 in 67, 1 finer (4/09).(Registry values: P5, N4719)
