Description

1899-O Silver Dollar, MS63
VAM-4, Micro O Variety, Top 100

1899-O $1 Micro O, VAM-4, MS63 PCGS. A Top 100 Variety. Die lines in the eagle's tailfeathers and a spindly peripheral die crack across the top of OF to the wingtip confirm the VAM-4 Micro O die marriage. Although not a Guide Book listing, VAM-4 is a prominent Morgan VAM and an essential part of the Top 100 set. The current coin displays strong cartwheel luster with brilliant, satiny surfaces. Light, scattered abrasions account for the mid-level numeric grade, including a few on the cheek near Liberty's mouth. However, eye appeal remains pleasing. Micro O dollars are scarce in Mint State regardless of individual VAM designation, and they are notably rare finer than the current VAM-4 example. Population (all Micro O varieties included): 17 in 63 (2 in 63+), 13 finer (2/24).
