Description

Condition Rarity 1901 Morgan Dollar, MS61
Important Doubled Die Reverse, VAM-3

1901 $1 Doubled Die Reverse Feathers MS61 NGC. VAM-3. Top 100 Variety. The 1901 Morgan dollar is the second most difficult date of the series to locate in higher Mint State grades. In addition to its status as a condition rarity, the present coin is a representative of one of the most important doubled die varieties. The die doubling is prominent on the reverse, especially at the tail feathers,
arrows and branch, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The eagle's lower wing feathers and beak are also clearly doubled. This example is an attractive piece with brilliant and lustrous silver surfaces. A few handling marks on Liberty's cheek keep this piece from a higher numerical grade. Census: 1 in 61, 1 finer (10/09).(Registry values: P9)
