Description

Standout 1903-S Silver Dollar, MS66

1903-S $1 MS66 NGC. The 1903-S is a difficult S-mint issue from late in the series, an elusive coin in all Mint State levels. The mintage was measly to begin with, at 1.24 million coins, and hundreds of thousands were likely melted under the Pittman Act meltings after 1918 and in later events. This Premium Gem NGC coin is one of only eight so graded, with one finer, while PCGS has certified 37 in MS66 and three pieces finer (2/10). A casual glance confirms the pristine quality of the surfaces, and a loupe reveals no surprises. The silver-white coloration and radiant luster make this a standout piece, worthy of strong bidding. The strike is excellent. Census: 8 in 66, 1 finer (2/10).
