Elusive Choice 1904-S Dollar

1904-S $1 MS64 PCGS. A virtually brilliant near-Gem that boasts dynamic luster and impeccably smooth surfaces. Only the eagle's breast and the hair above the ear lack an intricate strike. After 1904, hubs for the Morgan dollar design were destroyed, since hundreds of millions of silver dollars reposed in Treasury vaults and the denomination was considered finished. For its 1921 revival, new hubs had to be created by the designer of the series, George T. Morgan, who by then was the Mint's chief engraver.(Registry values: P7, N2998)
