1921-S Dollar, MS66
A Surprisingly Scarce Condition Rarity

1921-S $1 MS66 PCGS Secure. The 1921-S is an issue that logically should not be as rare as it is in high grades. Produced in the final year for Morgan dollars, from modified dies, all the 1921 issues were heavily circulated. Many were still in circulation in the early 1960s. So this date simply did not receive attention from collectors. Almost all of the 21.6 million pieces of the San Francisco dollars either slipped into circulation or were banged around in rolls or bags, leaving very few high grade collector coins. This is a spectacular, all-white coin that has the thick mint frost that seems to only be found on S and CC-mint silver. A spectacular example of this surprising, late-date condition rarity.
