Description

1889-CC Silver Dollar, AU55
Minimal Marks, Good Luster

1889-CC $1 AU55 PCGS. VAM-2A. The 1889-CC is the unchallenged key Carson City Morgan dollar issue. Although its mintage is greater than the 1881-CC and 1885-CC, those issues remained in Treasury holdings until the GSA auctions. The 1889-CC was predominantly released into Western commerce, and the typical survivor is a cleaned VF-XF piece. But the present lot is original and displays substantial remaining luster. It is also devoid of distracting abrasions. Toning is confined to a glimpse of golden-brown on the obverse margin near UNUM. Clash marks and die cracks allow ready attribution of the VAM variety.(Registry values: P9, N2998)
