Description

1889-CC Morgan Dollar, AU53
Low-Mintage Carson City Key

1889-CC $1 AU53 PCGS. VAM-5. The 1889-CC Morgan dollar mintage was limited by the slow resumption of coinage operations at the Carson City Mint after sitting dormant more than three years. It was well into October 1889 before any coins were struck. The resulting 350,000-piece mintage was low not only by Carson City standards but also in the Morgan dollar series overall. This AU53 example retains substantial silver luster throughout the lightly toned and minimally marked fields. High-point circulation wear exists primarily over the ear and at the a the eagle's breast. The VAM-5 die pair shows the second C in the mintmark low and tiny die rust pits within the eagle's tail feathering. This About Uncirculated coin will be a highlight of any circulated Carson City or Morgan dollar collection.
