    Description

Important 1878 Reverse of '79 Dollar

1878 7TF $1 Reverse of 1879 MS64 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. This modified hub example has the rounded breast of the 1879 reverse type, with the top arrow feather slanted in relation to the others. The breakdown of mintage between the different types is not known, as the Mint did not keep such records, although the customarily believed figures are 7.2 million of the earlier reverse type and 1.5 million of this Reverse of '79 type. This example is fully brilliant and sharply struck with good contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and lustrous devices. It is among the finer examples to be certified by PCGS. Population: 16 in 64, 4 finer (1/05).
