Description

1879-CC Silver Dollar, MS64+
Capped Die

1879-CC $1 Capped Die, VAM-3, MS64+ PCGS. CAC. A Top 100 Variety. The Capped Die 1879-CC Morgan dollar is, in reality, a Large over Over Mintmark variety. The area of the CC mintmark shows die tooling in an attempt to remove the undersized CC before punching the proper size mintmark. While everyone turns their attention to the reverse, examination of the obverse is also important as the 1 and 8 in the date show strong doubling above those digits. This Choice Mint State representative has brilliant and frosty silver luster with strong design definition. Both sides of this dollar are untoned. PCGS has only certified 28 examples as MS64+, and only 15 finer (3/19).
