Description
1886-S Morgan, MS67
Low-Mintage Issue
1886-S $1 MS67 NGC. Extremely close to Prooflike, this
example displays exquisite, reflective fields on both sides of the
coin. It is a carefully preserved representative of the low-mintage
San Francisco date, with just 750,000 business strikes produced.
Although the Redfield hoard contained many thousands of 1886-S
dollars, they were not of this quality or even nearly so.There are no abrasions or marks of consequence on the coin, which features a sharp strike -- although not quite full at the centers. Not a hint of toning visits the surfaces of this silver-white Superb Gem, and the eye appeal is outstanding. Of course, the coin is a prominent candidate for any Registry Set, confirmed by PCGS and NGC, which have combined to certify just six coins in MS67 and none finer (3/14). It is doubtful any of the others can match the quality of this coin.
