    Description

    1891-CC Silver Dollar, MS66+
    Important Condition Rarity

1891-CC $1 MS66+ PCGS. The GSA sales of the 1970s yielded only a little more than 5,600 examples of this later Carson City issue, and most of those coins exhibited various bagmarks, grading no finer than MS64 today. In fact, the 1891-CC Morgan dollar is plentiful through MS64, while MS65 pieces are also occasionally seen. Where this issue becomes scarce is in MS66, where just a few dozen pieces survive. With a Plus designation, this coin is among an elite minority of Premium Gems that will appeal the strongest to Registry collectors. Including a Prooflike piece, PCGS has seen only two coins that graded finer than the present.

This example is brilliant and boldly struck. The fields are sufficiently mirrored to produce a modest cameo appearance on each side, and only a few trivial marks are seen. Population: 49 in 66 (9 in 66+), 1 finer; 1 in 66 Prooflike, 1 finer (1/20).(Registry values: P6, N2998) (NGC ID# 255H, PCGS# 7206)

    Weight: 26.73 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
