    1893-O Silver Dollar, MS64+
    Subtly Reflective Fields
    Challenging in High Grade

1893-O $1 MS64+ PCGS. This New Orleans issue claims a mintage of only 300,000 coins, making it a semikey in all grades and a condition key in Gem Mint State. Fewer than a dozen Gem examples are known. The 1893-O is almost never seen in Prooflike or Deep Prooflike grades, making attractive lustrous coin the best option for most collectors. This piece, Plus graded in near-Gem condition, is about as high-end as most enthusiasts can hope to acquire of this issue. Luster is brilliant and frosty, yielding subtle reflectivity in the fields. Only light grazes on the obverse limit the grade. Most Morgan dollars struck at New Orleans during the 1890s are deficiently detailed in the centers, but while this piece is weak in that location, it is not distractingly so. PCGS lists nine higher-grade examples, including a trio of Prooflike and Deep Mirror Prooflike coins (1/20).(Registry values: P8, N4719) (NGC ID# 255T, PCGS# 7224)
