    1895-S Silver Dollar, MS65
Seldom Seen Gem or Finer Grades

1895-S $1 MS65 PCGS. An exceptionally appealing example of this scarce, semikey San Francisco issue. A brilliant-silver Gem Uncirculated coin, it exhibits few disruptions in the luster, and displays a degree of semiprooflike reflectivity in the fields. The mere suggestion of light golden color visits the reverse, although most would call the coin white throughout. As usual for a '95-S, the strike is a trifle soft on the eagle's breast and the hair above Liberty's ear. The 1895-S is a significant condition rarity in the finer Mint State grades, and it is particularly elusive above the Choice level. PCGS has certified only 4 examples numerically finer than the present coin, plus six more coins certified MS65+ (1/20).(Registry values: P8, N4719) (NGC ID# 255Z, PCGS# 7238)
