Description

Kingdom (Tribhuvana Bir Bikram?) silver Uniface Pattern (?) or Medal ND (1914?) UNC, 31mm/14.97gms. Signed A.B - J on neck truncation. A beautifully toned and executed item for Nepal, the King in formal military presentation at center with an ornate outer ring of script and decorated borders. Reportedly sold by The Money Company in the 1970s as a pattern for the proposed gold coinage of 1914, but we have not been able to substantiate this. We do know however that the Birmingham mint was producing dies for Nepal in this year (see: A Numismatic History of the Birmingham Mint by James O. Sweeny), and that the work is certainly of that quality. A very intriguing item given its overall presentation, and certainly worthy of further research.
