Description

Dutch Colony. United East India Company Ducaton 1741/0 XF40 NGC, Dordrecht mint, KM71, cf. Scholten-30 (RRRR; overdate unlisted). Holland issue. A markedly handsome example of this iconic Dutch issue, a light champagne tone over slate-gray fields giving an almost pewter appearance. A minor swath of unevenness exists along the upper rim, but is rather inconsequential for the type. Certainly among the rarest dates for this emission, with perhaps only a handful surviving outside of museums, the only other example we can point to being an AU50 that sold for $3525 in our January 2016 New York Sale (lot 3044).
