Description

Sumatra. Singapore Merchants copper Proof Keping Token AH 1250 (1835) PR66 Brown NGC, Birmingham mint, KM-Tn2, Prid-33, Sch-992. Issued by Christopher Rideout Read, the obverse legends reads "Tanah Malayu" or "Land of the Malays". This is the first token to bear the reverse design of the flower Bunga Tanjong or "flower of the cape", which would prove a popular motif for imitation.
