Amsterdam. Siege silver Klippe 20 Stuivers 1578 AU50 NGC,
Amsterdam mint, Delm-189. 13.45gm. Siege Coinage. Authorized
January 5, 1578, to be made from gathered and melted silverware by
order of the magistrate of Amsterdam, whose people initially
refused to join the rebellion against Spanish rule. Balanced,
steely surfaces that retain impressive detail and sound striking on
their design elements. This is a scarce and historically
interesting type of siege coin that was sold only once before by
our firm in the same grade for hammer price $1,300 (Heritage
Auction 3115, May 2024, Lot 32719), however this piece here does
not feature the doubling that was found in the prior example.Metal: Silver
