Deventer. Provincial Copper Siege Countermarked 4 Stuivers (15)78 MS62 Brown PCGS, Vanhoudt-527. Eagle countermark (UNC details). Struck by Count Georg von Lalaing of Rennenberg during the siege in Deventer that began on August 3, 1578 and ended when Spain handed the city over on November 19th of that year. Counterstamp of eagle within shield to signify the conversion of the piece into regular coinage after the siege was lifted. Well-struck for the type with only minor doubling noted.Metal: Copper
