Inaugural Auction Appearance of This Rare Type in Decades

Groningen & Ommeland. Provincial gold Specimen Pattern 28 Stuivers (Florjin) 1677 SP62 PCGS, Groningen mint, KM-Pn15, Delm-1163 (R3). 15.27gm. A thoroughly enjoyable and attractive rarity from Groningen facing up with warm amber highlights to the blazingly shimmering fields that project incredible mint freshness particularly on the reverse. The present cataloger was unable to locate any pieces publicly auctioned in the past decades of this date and type in gold, with the only specimens we are able to cite being that recorded by Delmonte (from the Dr. van Oppenraay Collection, weighing 15.40gm) and the mention in Catalogus van de Nederlandse Munten where reference is made to two pieces, one of 15.27gm (presumably this coin) and 15.40gm (likely the van Oppenraay specimen). A tempting opportunity, as this piece is likely not to be seen on the marketplace any time soon after this.
