Description
Well-Preserved Siege 1/4 Daalder, CNM Plate
Holland. Alkmaar Uniface tin Siege 1/4 Daalder (15)73 MS61
PCGS, Vanhoudt 469, CNM 2.01.5 (this coin), Mailliet-pl XXXVIII
#3. City gate divides date, 7 - 3 to either side / (blank). Issued
during the siege by Spanish troops under Fadrique Álvarez de
Toledo. The siege of Alkmaar, in part due to the ingenious move of
opening the floodgates of the dykes to cut off the Spanish supply
lines, is seen as one of the most instrumental early Dutch
victories in the Eighty Years' War. Remarkably fresh surfaces
coated in a sharp matte-metallic sheen, so rarely seen on the
easily perishable tin pieces from this period. Already a rarity
solely based on the type, more so in this exceptional state of
preservation.Metal: Tin
