    A Magnificent Gold Presentation
    Struck in 10 Ducat Weight

Holland. Provincial gold Rider (10 Ducat or Ducaton) 1687 UNC Details (Reverse Damage) NGC, Del-788, Fr-(unlisted). A truly spectacular and outstanding offering, this coin is technically an off-metal proof; these same dies traditionally were used for the Silver Rider, and have here been used to produce a gold piece to the considerable weight of 10 Ducats. This exceedingly high denomination is very likely a presentation piece designed to impress a visiting ambassador or diplomat, produced to be rare, unusual and sought after from the moment it was struck. Depicting an armored knight, sword raised and charging astride his horse over the provincial shield / lions supporting the crowned Arms of the United Provinces, this piece emanates patriotism, strength, and a nation demonstrating its skill.

Masterfully engraved and boldly rendered, this sharply-struck specimen is a warm aged-gold color, its fields imbued with considerable reflectivity. Between the elements of the devices lies a sheen of original icy luster, the entire planchet carrying the lightest amber tone. The certification 'reverse damage' is assigned due to a surface break observable in the reverse crown; however, careful examination suggests that this could potentially be a planchet issue rather than an actual damage to the coin, and viewing in person is recommended. Exhibiting the eye-appeal and character that only a large, specially produced gold piece can, this exceptional rarity of the Netherlands series was manufactured to inspire awe in high-level dignitaries, and is thus certain to impress its next owner; a premium representative, and worthy of a premium bid.
