Description

Maastricht. Siege 100 Stuivers 1794, KM10, D-1856, Delm756, uniface, AU50 NGC, medium dappled gray toning, light edge and some small surface abrasions as should be expected on a siege coin, the punches really clear, small tear-shaped annealing flaw on reverse as often found on these (but not tear shaped, certainly condign on an emergency coin!), very scarce. Maastricht was a commune in Limburg province, originally Frankish, then Spanish, then part of the Brabant, seized by the French on three occasions, the last being in 1794, the date of this coin, which was issued by the Prince of Hesse, Austria, during the siege of this year. What stories it could tell!
