Willem I Proof 25 Cents 1818-U PR62 PCGS, Utrecht mint, KM48, Schulman-286. Torch and Caduceus privy marks. The entire mintage of this Proof issue is listed in Schulman as simply 'a few test pieces'. One can presume that only a handful survive today, particularly from their notable absence from recent auction history. Glossy, reflective surfaces have developed a handsome aurous patina with charcoal elements at the peripheries, hairlines in the fields in line with the grade but to no visual detriment whatsoever. An absolutely marvelous Proof of the highest rarity.
