(1870s) Uniface Eagle Die Punch in Copper

(circa-1870s) Eagle Punch Die Trial Uncertified. 6.7 gm. 41 mm. A uniface copper disc, almost wafer thin, with a granular reverse. The obverse exhibits a large standing eagle in relief, complete but barely within the diameter of the piece. The left, right, and lower borders are tooled, but the eagle itself appears as made aside from steel-gray high-point toning. The eagle punch was engraved in fine style, and resembles many of the eagles seen on patterns from the mid-to-late 1870s, such as Judd-1554. However, the eagle is not a perfect match for a device on any known pattern.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
