    Description

    1759 (1999) Martha Washington Dollar in Copper-Zinc
    Judd-2185a, MS66
    Experimental Strike for the Blind

1759 (1999) $1 Martha Washington Dollar, Judd-2185a, Pollock-Unlisted, MS66 NGC. 7.94 grams. The Martha Washington design, previously used to test clad coinage circa 1965, was revived in 1999 to test "golden" alloys for the pending Sacagawea dollar. The importance of this particular piece is it was part of several experiments for the blind, as seen by six notches on the border of each side. The stated composition for this pattern is 74.19% copper, 23.26% zinc. Plain edge. Each side is bright and lustrous with undiminished golden color that shows a slight hint of rose color intermixed. This is the first example we have seen of this experimental coin for the blind. It is also the plate coin used on USPatterns.com, the images just sent to Saul and Andy for their website in July 2019. We do not know the scarcity yet of this particular pattern.
