Description
1805 Dickeson Quarter Mule, MS60 Brown
Judd-C1805-1, Pollock-6105
Possibly Unique
1805 Private Restrike Quarter, Judd-C1805-1, Pollock-6105,
Unique (?), MS60 Brown ANACS. The heavily rusted obverse die
was previously used by the Mint to strike Browning-2 quarters and
was probably bought as scrap. The reverse is Dickeson's recreation
of Adam Eckfeldt's Eagle on Half Shield design, believed to be a
rejected pattern die for a revenue stamp (ca. 1816). Struck in
copper with a plain edge. Deep chocolate-brown color overall, the
obverse shows heavy die rust and a rim break from 3 to 5 o'clock
but the motifs remain largely clear. The reverse fields were
crudely polished, leaving prominent striations, and there is a die
break from the rim at 5 o'clock that extends inward for 3 mm.
