1836 Gold Dollar in Silver, PR63
Judd-69, Old NGC Holder
1836 PG$1 Gold Dollar, Judd-69, Pollock-72, High R.7, PR63
NGC. The obverse offers a Liberty cap appropriately inscribed
and surrounded by a glory of rays, the same motif used for the 1836
Mint medal celebrating the advent of steam coinage. It is also very
similar to the design seen on certain contemporary Mexican coins.
The reverse features a large 1 D. in two lines, surrounded by a
palm frond, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date 1836 around
the rim. Struck in silver with a plain edge. Mottled gold,
sky-blue, and russet-olive toning encompasses each side but does
not hinder the field reflectivity. The strike is sharp with just a
few contact marks to determine the grade. Housed in a Generation 5
