    1838 Pattern Half-Dollar, Judd-73 Original

1838 Half-Dollar, Judd-73, Pollock-77, R.7, PR 63 NGC. The Kneass obverse design paired with Gobrecht's flying eagle motif on the reverse. This is an original example (over 200 grains), not to be confused with the more common restrike (192 grains). Struck in silver with a reeded edge. A deeply toned example of this popular pattern half exhibiting scattered hairlines that limit the grade. The bottom of the reverse shows diagnostic small die cracks, and weakness of definition in the center, a characteristic of all Judd-73s. Medallic alignment.

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
