1838 Half Dollar in Silver
1838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-72, Pollock-75, R.5, PR66 Cameo
PCGS. A draped bust of Liberty with lush hair curls faces left
wearing a crown of jewels and a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, seven
stars to the left, six stars to the right, and the date below. A
finely detailed standing eagle on the reverse displays its wings
with the head turned over the left wing to the viewer's right, an
olive branch and four arrows in the eagle's claws. The statutory
legend, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, around, and the denomination,
HALF DOLLAR, below. William Kneass created the obverse, in
collaboration with Christian Gobrecht who created the reverse.
Struck in silver with a reeded edge.
Judd-72, PR66 Cameo
