    Description

1838 Kneass-Designed Half Dollar in Silver
    Judd-73 Restrike, PR35

1838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-73 Restrike, Pollock-77, R.5 PR35 PCGS. On the obverse, Liberty faces left and wears a diadem and a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY. 13 stars and the date fill the periphery. On the reverse, an eagle flies level in a plain field with the statutory legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around, with the denomination HALF DOLLAR below. Kneass is believed to have designed this pattern, but Christian Gobrecht has been credited as the designer. The face of Liberty bears a strong resemblance to her counterpart on the Liberty eagle, also introduced in 1838. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Medallic alignment. Even wear is seen over the high points of the design and has dulled the fields, leaving a light, even silver-gray surface on each side.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
