    Description

    Gobrecht 1838 Silver Half, PR63
    Judd-73 Restrike

1838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-73 Restrike, Pollock-77, R.5, PR63 NGC. The obverse, once attributed to Chief Engraver William Kneass, is more likely the work of assistant Christian Gobrecht. It depicts a large draped bust of Liberty facing left. A level flying eagle faces left, dominating the reverse. A restrike with several different die cracks on the reverse. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Better struck than usual for Judd-73, though the prominent neck curl and the eagle's breast are incompletely brought up. Attractively toned in powder-blue, olive-green, and peach-gold shades.
